Everton 2-0 Blackpool – Official Highlights and Goals | FA Cup 5th Round 18-02-12
Two early goals helped Everton comfortably beat Blackpool to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for the second time in nine years. Royston Drenthe scored after 49 seconds from Marouane Fellaini’s pass. Denis Stracqualursi then made it a dream start for the hosts on six minutes when he tapped in. Stracqualursi could have added to his total as Everton had chances to put the tie out of sight, while Kevin Phillips blazed over a penalty late on. The veteran striker hit the bar from a free-kick with Lomana LuaLua also hitting the post, but they were isolated efforts for the visitors, who also lost Gary Taylor-Fletcher as a result of a first-half collision with Everton keeper Tim Howard. Those events summed up a miserable afternoon for Ian Holloway’s team who were outclassed by their Premier League opponents and will now return to their battle for Championship promotion, starting with a key game at home to West Ham on Tuesday. For Everton, the victory extends their unbeaten run to seven games during what has been a profitable period which has included wins over Chelsea and Manchester City at Goodison. Blackpool’s poor start to the game was at odds with a run that has seen them go 10-games unbeaten since the turn of the year. Holloway’s men were up against top-flight opposition for the first time this season and they ran into an Everton side brimming with confidence. But the way in which they were two goals behind within six minutes quickly mapped out a game in which they failed to …

Millwall 0-2 Bolton – Official Highlights and Goals | FA Cup 5th Round 18-02-12
Bolton put their relegation worries to one side as goals from Ryo Miyaichi and David Ngog secured an FA Cup quarter-final place at Millwall’s expense. Arsenal loanee Miyaichi showed why Gunners manager Arsene Wenger rates him so highly when he curled the ball into the corner in the fourth minute. Just before the hour, Ngog’s left-footed shot was too strong for Steve Mildenhall as Bolton went 2-0 up. Adam Bogdan then made a double save to thwart Harry Kane and Darius Henderson. Japanese forward Miyaichi, who only turned 19 in December, joined Bolton in the January transfer window and manager Owen Coyle will no doubt be hoping he will have the same galvanising effect that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere had on the Trotters when he arrived on loan in 2010. The teenager latched on to Sam Ricketts’ quick free-kick and after holding off Alan Dunne’s challenge finished with superb composure. Fabrice Muamba and Ngog also had good first-half chances, while Millwall failed to test Bolton goalkeeper Bogdan despite the ample possession they enjoyed. The closest the Lions came to an equaliser before the break was when the Trotters’ Iceland international Gretar Steinsson sliced his attempted clearance from Liam Feeney’s cross over his own crossbar. Just after the interval Paul Robinson met Scott Barron’s 49th-minute corner with a header but did not make sufficient contact and the ball sailed wide. It was then Robinson’s poor clearance at the other end that led to Ngog’s goal, the …
Liverpool 6-1 Brighton – Official Highlights and Goals | FA Cup 5th Round 19-02-12
Three own goals helped Liverpool ease past Brighton to secure an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Stoke. Martin Skrtel gave the Carling Cup finalists the lead before Kazenga LuaLua levelled from 25 yards. Brighton’s Liam Bridcutt put through his own net before Liverpool striker Andy Carroll made it 3-1. Two more own goals came from Bridcutt and Lewis Dunk before Luis Suarez completed the rout just minutes after missing a late penalty. It was a resounding victory for Kenny Dalglish’s side ahead of next Sunday’s Wembley date with Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final. Liverpool’s trophy cabinet has been gathering dust for six years, but suddenly they find themselves within touching distance of an FA Cup-Carling Cup double after their biggest win since Dalglish returned to the helm last January. Almost 29 years on to the day, Brighton were back at the scene of their best-ever FA Cup victory – a 2-1 triumph at Anfield, on their way to the 1983 final. But the visitors found themselves behind in only the fifth minute when Skrtel, Liverpool’s form player of late, took advantage of poor marking by Ashley Barnes from Steven Gerrard’s corner to arrow a close-range near-post header past Peter Brezovan. Brighton had been here before. When the sides met back in September in the Carling Cup, Liverpool edged ahead thanks to Craig Bellamy’s early goal before running out winners. thefa.com The FA Cup on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter tags “Liverpool 6-1 Brighton” soccer …
